Tiger Woods - The Apology

The world has waited with abated breathe for the day when Tiger Woods would do what he did today – his first statement regarding the behavior that everyone has regarded as scandalous. Over the past two months, female after female has come forward confessing that she was a secret paramour of Tiger Woods. One woman confessed that she had gotten pregnant on two occasions while being involved with Tiger – oh boy!

Polls taken before and after the truth/heresy have revealed that there will be those who will never forgive Tiger Woods for his behavior. Some have stated that they will never be able to accept his apology ever… what a lost for them. I don’t think that anyone listening today to Tiger’s apology will ever fully understand what drove him to do what he did.

For a moment, let me take you away from Tiger. Let me remind you of the double standard that is being applied to Tiger. A standard that Clinton was above; the governor of New Jersey – Jim McGreevey was above, the governor of New York – Spitzer was above, and finally, the good Senator from Nevada, who screwed his best friend’s wife and never apologized for having done so – oh, and let’s not forget the good governor of South Carolina – ‘the’ Governor Sanford! These men were allowed to apologize and keep their office. Only one resigned of his own free will. Tiger has taken it on the chin for more than two months with no let up. I wonder why?

Tiger blames his behavior on what he believes was his ability to do exactly what he wanted to do, and that others allowed him to do so. Personally, I feel that he is like a lot of men that are caught up in the mix – it was offered, and he took it; it was good – and he liked it even more the next time. You can’t tell me that he wasn’t offered the same thing that stars from all walks of life are offered – including other golfers on the circuit; whatever it takes to get you onboard. That is just how the world works.

For those women who think that Tiger alone is at fault for this debacle, let me say this – it takes two to tango. To those women that were intimately involved with Tiger – you are owed no apology; in fact, you should be ridiculed just as heavily for your indiscretions. You were directly involved with Tiger in a willing manner that facilitated his downfall. Your confessions came as revelations to appease those who would judge you. You were involved with a married man and you knew it – you are not deserving of an apology and none was given to you.

As far as sincerity… we will have to wait, because only time will tell whether Tiger is going to fly the straight and narrow from this day forth. Personally, I don’t think that his good intentions will be realized because once an addict, whether drugs or punani, always an addict. The temptation will always be there… waiting for a weak moment. He is addicted to sex. Tiger enjoyed a lifestyle that few are able to enjoy until he got outted.

My message to Tiger… don’t go back home unless you sincerely mean never to repeat the act again!

In a democracy, silence is not golden; it is condonance in the face of injustices; it is fear, where the thought of reprisal fosters control – Rodney A. Davis
